BTEC National Engineering - Extended Diploma 

(Equivalent to 3 A levels)

If you have ever wondered how things work, or have taken things apart. Engineering is for you. It’s a mix of theory and practical lessons. There is a shortage of engineers so you  have a higher chance of getting meaningful employment. Also, Engineering can earn you LOADS of money!! What's not to like?!

Year 12

Year 13

• • Engineering Product Design and Manufacture (EXTERNAL COURSEWORK)

  • Microcontroller Systems for Engineers (EXTERNAL COURSEWORK)

  • Calculus to Solve Engineering Problems

  • Work Experience in the Engineering Sector

  • Computer Aided Design in Engineering

  • Electronic Measurement and Testing of Circuits

  • Mechanical Behaviour of Non-metallic Materials

Assessment

Assessment is split between internal coursework (teacher marked), external coursework (marked by the exam board) and an exam which is done in year 12. The course broadly covers the main 3 main areas of Engineering, civil, mechanical and electrical. 

At South Tyneside College you will also get a City & Guild Level 1 Welding certificate and practical experience on turning machines and hand fitting.
