ThePortal@Walker - Newcastle Schools 16-19 Bursary Scheme

The Newcastle Schools’ Bursary Scheme has been a financial support fund available across the majority of the city’s secondary schools and academies for a number of years. The funding is aimed at young people who are looking to enter or remain in sixth form and who are either:

► From a family that has a household annual income including benefits of less £25,000

► In care; or

► Have left care having been in care for a minimum of 3 months since the age of 14; or

► Receiving income support or Universal Credit in their own right; or

► Receiving both Employment Support Allowance and Disability living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.

The objective of the Bursary Scheme is to minimise financial barriers that may prevent young people from continuing in learning. Around ten per cent of the young people in our sixth forms benefit from the financial support available through the Bursary. The Council manages the Scheme on behalf of the majority of our secondary schools.

In order to help promote the Scheme more effectively and to make the process of applying for the funding much easier the Council has changed to an online application process, which is now live and can be found through the following link:
